Ince Park Comes to Life

The developers of Ince Park, the new £500 million industrial Eco Park to be built on the Ince Marshes, have produced a state of the art 'fly-through' film to show how the Park will look when it is fully occupied.

The fly-through shows in detail the concept behind Ince Park and how it will use its transport links to bring in materials by canal, rail and road for processing. It features Port Ince, a new berth for the Manchester Ship Canal and also the new railway head, which will allow material to be brought in on freight trains, keeping it off the road network.

The biomass plant and Energy-from-Waste facility, which between them will generate around 115MW of electricity for use by the other occupants of the Park, are also shown 'in-situ'. The film also features the planned research centre.

Ince Park is a joint venture between Covanta Energy and Peel Environmental. The 51 hectare site has full outline planning consent for environmental technology uses including waste and resource management, recycling and reprocessing. Ince Park is located adjacent to the Stanlow Oil Refinery.

Myles Kitcher, Director of Peel Environmental, said: "The concept behind the Eco Park can be quite difficult for people to grasp, so the fly-through shows how the Park could look in a few years time, and how it will take advantage of its excellent transport links. When fully occupied the Park will create over 1,000 new jobs, so it's a very exciting project and the fly-through brings the vision to life."

To accompany the launch of the fly-through, Peel and Covanta have also published an update newsletter, giving more details of the first two facilities that will be constructed. Both the fly-through and the newsletter can be viewed at: www.incepark.com

About Covanta

Covanta Energy is a world leader in the development and operation of large scale Energy-from-Waste (EfW) projects. Established in the US in the early 1980s, Covanta has over 25 years of experience in the EfW industry. Covanta operates over 40 EfW facilities which provide communities with a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to their solid waste disposal needs by using municipal solid waste and business waste which cannot sensibly be recycled to generate energy, most of which is considered to be renewable. Covanta currently processes more than 49,000 tonnes of rubbish every day. Waste which might otherwise be sent to landfill.

For every tonne of rubbish treated at an EfW facility, approximately 460 kg less of carbon dioxide equivalent is released into the air compared with sending the same waste to landfill.
